Boeing to build 3 satellites for Mexico

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 20, 2010

Boeing announced that it has received a contract for approximately $1 billion from the government of Mexico to deliver an end-to-end satellite communications system - MEXSAT, that will consist of three satellites, two ground sites, associated network operations systems and reference user terminals. MEXSAT will provide secure communications for Mexico’s national security needs, as well as enhanced coverage for the country’s civil telecommunications.

Thales to build W3D for Intelsat

Eutelsat Communications announced that Thales Alenia Space has been commissioned to build the W3D satellite that will replace the W3B spacecraft lost after its launch on October 28. The delivery schedule of the new satellite has been fixed to 24 months, enabling Eutelsat to plan for commercial availability from early 2013.

Arianespace orbited Hylas 1 and Intelsat 17

Arianespace orbited today two telecommunications satellites: INTELSAT 17 and HYLAS 1. It was 54th successful Ariane 5 launch (40th success in a row).

Skyterra 1 is launched

With 7th commercial mission of the year and the 10th successful Proton launch of 2010, International Launch Services successfully carried the SkyTerra 1 (MSV-1) satellite into orbit today for LightSquared of Reston, Virginia.
