International Launch Services Proton/Breeze M launched from Pad 39 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 1:15 a.m. today local time (19:15 GMT, 3:15 p.m. EDT, on May 20). After a 9 hour 13 minute mission, the Breeze M successfully carried Telstar 14R/Estrela do Sul 2 into GEO orbit.
A heavy-lift Ariane 5 successfully orbited a record payload mass of 10,050 kg. with Yahsat Y1A and Intelsat New Dawn satellites. In a flight conducted from the Spaceport in French Guiana, the Ariane 5 deployed Yahsat Y1A to be operated by the United Arab Emirates’ Al Yah Satellite Communications Company along with Intelsat New Dawn, which was built for the new joint venture of Intelsat and Convergence Partners.
